After moving back to the ‘mainland’, we purchased 5 acres just outside the city limits of Fredericksburg. Sitting in the heart of the Texas wine country (over 100 wineries now and counting), we began looking for a way to create a unique experience for our guests.

Part of our family roots go back to Portugal and while looking at wineries there we came across the idea of a converted wine barrel. We set to work designing and researching to see if we could make a cabin in the shape of a wine barrel. As one can imagine, it was some of the hardest building anyone had ever done and had numerous issues to address and solve!

But our family has enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to build (and finish out!) a round building! We all have a little blood, sweat and tears into it and couldn’t be prouder of America’s first wine barrel cabins.
